This week is the start of the Network of Employers for Traffic Safety Drive Safely to Work Week. You may think you’re a good driver, or even a great driver, but the reality is, many of us have habits that can lead to unsafe driving behaviors. Each year, roughly 3,000 people are involved in a fatal car wreck due to distracted driving.
Use this week as a time to remind employees to drive safely to work. Allow a little extra time for unexpected traffic or stops. Reduce your speed by planning your route and keeping an eye on the speedometer. Speeding is not worth the risk it puts you and other drivers in just to save a couple of minutes. Furthermore, drivers are twice as likely to fatally hit a pedestrian at 30mph compared to 25mph. Turn your cell phone on silent to help reduce the urge to respond to any texts, emails, or phone calls you may receive and plan ahead for any weather conditions that may slow you down or alter your normal route to work.
If you catch yourself driving distracted, try to make the right changes to make you a better driver and the roads a safer place. If you have been injured by the negligence of a distracted driver, contact our law firm to speak with one of our car accident attorneys in Charleston.
