OSHA investigation could take up to six months.

According to recent news reports, the February 1, 2014, collapse of cell towers could take up to six months to investigate. According to OSHA’s area director, Prentice Cline, OSHA arrived at the site of the collapse on Saturday and has started collecting evidence.

Cline has described the incident as complex and indicated that the investigation process will involve conducting interviews, making measurements, taking pictures, and gathering various documents. The investigation, according to Cline, is to determine whether enforcement actions are needed to compel compliance with current regulations.

The collapsed towers belonged to SBA Communications and S & S Communications. SBA Communications owns cell phone towers throughout the world and is based in Boca Raton, Florida; while S & S Communications has its’ headquarters in Oklahoma.

While no details about the OSHA investigation have been released, OSHA has noted concern that increased injuries on communications towers is on the rise-with 14 fatalities involving communication towers in 2013. Three individuals were killed in the February 1, 2013 collapse including one firefighter, while two others were seriously injured.
