In July of 1985, Americans began celebrating National Parks and Recreation Month. This provides the opportunity for communities to promote the benefits of their local parks to encourage people to get outdoors and stay healthy. Not only do they promote people’s health, but they also support the environment.
Children with access to parks and playgrounds are more likely to succeed in school and are more likely to engage in physical activities. Spending time outdoors also reduces stress to improve mental health. Being in nature can improve creativity and calm aggression.
Be sure to take some time out of your schedule this month to visit one of West Virginia’s beautiful state parks or a local playground!
