Home Safety: Thanksgiving Day

Posted in Safety Tips,Uncategorized on November 21, 2017

Thanksgiving is all about having family time, eating, and sharing stories, but it can come with some surprising dangers. Home safety can be a concern when hosting family and friends for a Thanksgiving feast.

If hosting Thanksgiving, you may have a lot of pressure to impress with the menu you choose. 69% of fires on Thanksgiving are caused by cooking. Most them are a result of unattended cooking, which can easily happen when guests arrive or more than one menu item needs attention. Keep a fire extinguisher handy incase a fire does occur. Be sure to NEVER douse a grease fire with water. This will only spread the fire and cause more damage or injuries. If a fire starts in the oven, turn off the oven, keep the door closed, and call 911. Before going to bed, make sure all appliances are turned off and cooled down.

These are just a few things to keep in mind to avoid a Thanksgiving Day disaster. From Manchin Injury Law Group, we would like to wish you and your family a safe and warm Thanksgiving!
