A car collision injured four and killed one in Monongalia County yesterday. The collision occurred around 12:12 p.m. near the 150 mile marker of Interstate 79 South. According to state police, a 1997 Ford Explorer operated by an Indiana woman crossed the median and collided head-on with a Jeep operated by a Maryland man.
The Indiana woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her car also caught fire after the collision. The Maryland man and his three minor passengers were all transported to local hospitals.
One of the most common reasons collisions occur is due to failure to maintain control of one’s vehicle. Failure to maintain control of your vehicle can happen for multiple reasons. An individual may be distracted by something in the vehicle, the car could have hit a bad patch on the road, or an individual just may not be paying attention. Failing to maintain control of your vehicle is dangerous and can lead to devastating car collisions. When driving, be sure to be aware of your surroundings, both inside and outside of your vehicle. Additionally, be sure to minimize distractions within your vehicle. Don’t keep music too loud, and if you must use a mobile phone, ensure that you are using a handheld device such as bluetooth to reduce distraction risks.
