Utah Nurse Receives $500,000

Posted in News,Uncategorized on November 22, 2017

We all remember back in July of this year where a nurse was arrested for refusing to take blood from an unconscious man. The nurse was released less than an hour later and never charged. On November 1st, the nurse and her attorney reached a settlement with the city and university that owns the hospital for $500,000. The University of Utah is splitting the costs of settlement with the city after it was found that university officers failed to resolve the situation or defend the nurse from being arrested.

The nurse plans to donate some of the money to the #EndNurseAbuse campaign and to help people obtain body camera footage of incidents involving themselves.

There is still a criminal investigation into the nurse’s arrest involving the Unified Police Department, the FBI, and the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office. The Salt Lake City Mayor announced that the police officer and his commander violated several department policies during the incident with the nurse. The officer has since been fired and the commander has been demoted.
