Filing A Social Security Disability Claim

Posted in Social Security Disability,Uncategorized on March 26, 2015

Filing a Social Security Disability Insurance claim can seem like a very difficult task. However, the Social Security Administration has taken steps over the last several years to make filing such a claim easier for disabled persons. To file a Social Security Disability claim, a person has two options:

1. Apply online at www.socialsecurity.gov; or

2. Call the Social Security Administration’s toll-free number, 304-367-18621-800-772-1213 FREE, to make an appointment to file a disability claim at your local Social Security office or to set up an appointment for someone to take your claim over the telephone.

The Social Security Administration estimates that the disability claims interview will usually take around an hour to complete. If you are deaf or hard of hearing, you may contact the Social Security Administration by calling toll-free TTY number, 304-367-1862304-367-1862 FREE, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on business days. In addition, if you schedule an appointment, the Social Security Administration will send you a Disability Starter Kit to help you get ready for your disability claims interview. If you are interested in applying online, the Disability Starter Kit is also available online at www.socialsecurity.gov/disability.

In addition to filing your application online, the Social Security Administration has just launched a new program that allows applicants to file documents supporting a claim online. By filing documents online, the Social Security Administration believes reviewing your claim will now be much faster. You can upload documents to support your claim at www.ssa.gov/disabilityssi/appeal.

Although the Social Security Administration has made filing and appealing Social Security Disability Insurance claims much easier, the process can still be very confusing and difficult. If you believe that you qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance benefits or if you have received a denial of benefits, you don’t have to stand alone. Contact one of the attorneys at Manchin Injury Law Group, PPLC, today to discuss your potential claim.
