This year will be the 9th Annual Community Baby Shower hosted by the Marion County Family Resource Network. Each year this community baby shower has been held to assist new and expecting mothers with baby supplies. The shower will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017.
There are speakers who talk to new mothers about different topics from car-seat safety to nutrition. Each mother leaves with items babies need during the first part of their lives. This shower is extremely successful each year with the help of volunteers and donated items from Marion County residents.
For several years, Manchin Injury Law Group has donated car seats to his event and will be donating rear-facing car seats this year as well.
“Car seat safety is an important topic near and dear to my heart,” said Tim Manchin, managing partner of the law firm. “Our firm has seen the devastating consequences from the failure to properly use car seats when a newborn is involved in a car wreck.”
Manchin continued, “We are so fortunate to live in this wonderful community and are happy to contribute to our children’s safety by making sure their mothers don’t have to choose between safety and other costly infant needs.”
Taylor Downs, also a partner in the law firm, commented that “before new parents can even bring a baby home, they are required to have a properly sized and installed car seat. It is vital that these mothers and babies get off to the right start.”
Having the proper car seat is extremely important for your child’s safety. This baby shower gives new mothers the opportunity to provide the best care for their child while starting out.
Be sure the car seat is installed properly before traveling with your baby. The seat should not be able to move more than one inch front-to-back or side-to-side when pulled at the belt path. The straps should lie flat at or above your child’s shoulders. They should be tight enough so that extra material cannot be pinched near the shoulders. Remember to move the chest clip to armpit level.
